Microbiome Analysis Report

From birth, your microbiome is significantly impacted by the world around you. And while environmental factors and genetics certainly play a role, dietary changes and nutritional influences account 50-60% of the factors that alter your microbiome. Ingesting foods that increase or decrease certain bacteria can end up wreaking havoc, resulting in imbalance and manifesting into dysfunction. Fortunately we know how foods behave relative to microorganisms and because we've mapped your entire microbiome, we have the most personalized dietary recommendations within this report needed for you to achieve true balance within your microbiome and optimal overall health.

Nutrient Scores Report

Different bacterial species require different nutrients. The purpose of personalized diet is to increase the number of bacteria needed to maintain the balance of the microbiome, while reducing the number of bacteria that cause an imbalance. The personalized nutrition guide helps balance your microbiome by selectively feeding the right bacteria in your gut.

You can modulate your microbiome to achieve better health by knowing which foods are most beneficial and consuming more of those foods.

Frequently Asked Questions

About YourGutMap

Does YourGutMap have a scientific base?

Our academic staff and scientific committee carefully select and evaluate

What does YourGutMap microbiome analysis provide me with?

The Personalized Nutrition Guide helps to modulate the gut microbiome with the help of nutrition. By showing the relationship between bacteria and the nutrients, the guide helps to shape a diverse and balanced gut flora. This, in its turn, would allow for:

• A better sleep quality,

• A regular digestive system,

• A healthy and sustainable weight,

• A higher energy level during the day,

• A better stress management and increased mental performance,

• A stronger immune system,

• A healthier life and better chronic disease management.

Taking the sample

How should I collect my sample?

YourGutMap Microbiome collection kits include everything required to comfortably take a sample at home. The process involves taking a small swab of stool from the toilet roll, and mixing it into the DNA isolation liquid tube provided.

Could my stool sample be damaged during the shipping process?

The stabilizer liquid in the tube included in the microbiome analysis kit is a special liquid that kills microorganisms on the first contact with the sample and prevents the fragmentation of the released microbial DNA. This liquid protects the sample from contamination and allows it to reach the laboratory safely. This liquid can preserve the sample at room temperature for up to 2 years.

How do I make sure I collect the sample correctly?

There are full instructions on providing the sample within each kit. Using normal toilet roll (avoid using scented, or antibacterial wipes) use the swab to simply swab some stool from your first wipe, and stir it into the DNA isolation liquid. Once you see a color change in the liquid, your sample is ready to send to the laboratory.

The Laboratory Analysis

What is the difference between a food intolerance test and a microbiome analysis?

YourGutMap Microbiome Analysis is not used for diagnosis, nor does it prohibit

any food. Therefore, the analysis does not report on the presence of food allergy/

intolerance. Rather, the test analyses the bacteria breakdown within the gut, and can unlock insights around your ability to digest macro and micro nutrients effectively.

How often should I take the test?

Regular analyses are recommended in order to better monitor and rebalance the

microbiome. Modulating the microbiome with the help of a personalized nutrition guide has been shown to show positive results within as little as six weeks. Our Nutritional Team recommends retesting 6 months after taking your original test to see your progress.

Does this analysis detect an allergy or food intolerance?

YourGutMap microbiome analysis is NOT an allergy or food intolerance test. Foods that cause allergies or intolerance should be completely excluded from the diet, but in the YourGutMap process, foods with low scores receive low priority for a certain period of time.

The main goal here is to provide the microbiome with high-score nutrients needed to restore the microbial balance, not to exclude foods completely, which is the case with an intolerance test.

Is the YourGutMap Microbiome test a diagnostic test?

The microbiome analysis is not a diagnostic test. The purpose of microbiome analysis is to analyze the current state of the intestinal bacteria and to regulate nutrition according to the needs of the microbiome, thus ensuring the modulation of the microbiome.

When should I postpone the microbiome analysis?

In some cases, you may have to postpone the microbiome analysis. These are also the cases when the microbiome analysis is perhaps the most critical. Please, postpone your microbiome analysis for 1 month in the following cases:

- Use of antibiotics

- Abdominal surgery

- Hospitalization for 48 hours or more

- Colonoscopy and/or endoscopy

The analysis can be performed during pregnancy. However, having it done before or after pregnancy will be more efficient in terms of shaping the microbiome that the mother will pass to her child. In the circumstance of pregnancy, any dietary changes should be supervised by a qualified Health Practitioner and in consultation with your Doctor.

Why is the analysis process so long?

All bacteria in the intestines are analyzed one by one up to the genus level and the genetic structures of these bacteria are examined in detail. This process takes 16 days in the laboratory, allowing for sample transport you can normal expect results in 3-4 weeks from the date of taking your sample

Are these reports individual?

Microbiome analysis results are completely personalized and unique to you. The

microbiome begins to take shape during gestation. Type of birth, past illnesses, antibiotic and drug usage, as well as diet and lifestyle habits all contribute to shaping the microbiome. Therefore, the microbiome varies from person to person, and is as unique as a fingerprint.

Microbiome Analysis Report

Are microbiome age and metabolic age the same thing?

Microbiome age is different from your biological age and metabolic age. As we age, the bacterial order in our gut and the interaction between bacteria change. Microbiome age indicates the state of the bacteria in your current profile.

How can I reverse my microbiome age?

The microbiome begins to form in the womb and ages along with us. Environmental factors and dietary habits play an important role in the microbiome age. While the chronological age cannot be changed, the microbiome age can thanks to the dynamic structure of the microbiome. The microbiome age can be reversed by consuming the foods specific to the microbiome needs.

Why is my microbiome diversity score low?

Mode of birth, past illnesses, drugs used, diet, and lifestyle are some of the factors that shape the microbiome. Microbiome diversity indicates the number of bacterial species present in the intestines are how evenly distributed each species is. High microbiome diversity means higher metabolic activity. Thus, increasing the number of bacterial species in the gut has a direct positive impact on health.

How can I increase my microbiome diversity score?

Microbiome diversity is one of the most important parameters of general health. One of the main purposes of the YourGutMap microbiome analysis is to provide personalized nutritional recommendations that will ensure a balanced increase in microbiome diversity. The microbiome diversity of an individual can be increased by integrating the high-score foods from the nutrition guide into the diet.

My body mass index is high, but I am not overweight, why?

The extent to which the body converts the nutrients it receives into energy is largely controlled by the gut microbiome. Therefore, measurable differences in the microbiomes of people in the underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese categories have been identified.

The body mass index module examines the weight gain potential of the gut microbiome, not the current weight data. The fact that individuals do not have weight problems at the moment does not mean that they will not have them in the future. With the right foods, the weight memory of the microbiome is modified and the likelihood of maintaining the ideal weight is increased.

My protein metabolism score is low, although I consume large amounts of protein

due to sports training. How can I increase it?

It is important to consume the right protein sources needed by the microbiome and in the right amount. Your personalized nutrition guide is designed to help you raise this score first to the general public’s average level and then higher. This is achieved by feeding the bacteria involved in this metabolism with the right protein sources.

Is there a relationship between high fat metabolism score and current weight?

The vitamin synthesis module in the YourGutMap microbiome analysis examines the vitamins synthesized by the intestinal bacteria, not the supplements taken. Intestinal bacteria are responsible for the synthesis of vitamins B and K. All of the bacteria responsible for vitamin biosynthesis is examined in this module. Despite the high vitamin synthesis score, vitamin deficiencies seen in the blood test may be caused by wrong or deficient nutrition, existing diseases, and drug usage

Personalized Nutrition Report

How should I use the food scores in the Personalized Nutrition Guide and how will

the process proceed?

Our nutritional recommendations are based on scoring of nutrients and shows

which nutrients an individual should consume more or less in a certain period of time in order to ensure a homogeneous balance of trillions of gut bacteria and increase microbial Diversity.

Considering the past medical history obtained prior to the analysis, a suitable diet list is designed and a 6-week diet service is provided. Diet lists are modified and updated per client’s wish and feedback received during the weekly meetings.

This tool has been shown in published studies to increase microbiome diversity by an average of 18% in just 6 weeks.

What do the red, yellow and blue colors in the personalized nutrition guide mean?

Eat less of the foods that are scored between 0 and 3 and coloured red.

Eat foods that are scored between 4 and 7 and coloured yellow for a balanced and varied diet.

Enrich your diet with foods that are scored between 8 and 10 and coloured blue.

It is essential not to consume the same foods continuously, but rather use the high-score foods in a balanced and diversified manner.

As well as the colour coding, it is important to pay attention to the number score. For

example, in the ‘yellow’ foods, consuming a 7 is better than a 4

Should I eat the high-score foods or the low-score ones?

Nutrient scores are created specifically to diversify and stabilize the microbiome. The high-score foods contain the nutrients the gut microbiome needs the most at the moment. The higher the score of a food, the more effective it is in modulating the gut.

Should I use these scores for the rest of my life?

The microbiome is modulated through a personalized nutrition program based on the nutrient scores and followed for at least 6 weeks. During this time, the priority is given to the high-score nutrients needed by the gut microbiome, while the low-score nutrients receive low priority. Thus, a microbiome modulation is achieved in a little as 6 weeks.

When the process is over, the foods that received low priority during the 6-week period can be gradually re-integrated into the diet.

Why are the gluten-containing products colour-coded blue even though I have

gluten intolerance?

YourGutmap microbiome analysis results do not indicate food allergies or

intolerances. The scoring is based on the effect of nutrients in driving the intestinal bacterial environment to the healthiest state possible. Once your Practitioner is informed about the foods that cause allergies or intolerances, the list is adjusted with alternatives compatible with the current health status and suitable for the microbiome.

Why are the lactose-containing products colour-coded blue even though I have

lactose intolerance?

YourGutMap microbiome analysis results do not indicate food allergies or intolerances. The scoring is based on the effect of nutrients in driving the intestinal bacterial environment to the healthiest state possible. Once your Health Practitioner is informed about the foods that cause allergies or intolerances, the list is adjusted with alternatives compatible with the current health status and suitable for the microbiome.

General Questions

What is the difference between microbiota and microbiome?

Various microorganisms such as bacteria, archaea, viruses and eukaryotic microbes are found in the human body, and all of these living organisms form the microbiota. The gut microbiome, on the other hand, includes the gut microbiota with all its genetic information, as well as the microbe-microbe and microbe-host interactions that occur in the intestinal environment.

According to these results, do I have IBS?

YourGutMap microbiome analysis is not a diagnostic test. It provides insight into

disease predisposition by exploring the current state of the microbiome. However, this information is not meant to be used for diagnostic purposes.

Will my IBS be cured completely?

The degree of the improvement after the YourGutMap process varies from client to client and directly correlates with the degree of compliance with the nutritional recommendations. Psychological factors that affect IBS can also weigh in on the process. IBS management is one of the areas we are the most successful in. Our clinical studies on IBS have a success rate of 82%.

According to these results, what do my gas and bloating complaints arise from?

How can these complaints be addressed?

Microbiome analysis is not diagnostic. However, if one or more of the protein/fat/ carbohydrate metabolism scores are low, gas and bloating problems may occur. Low microbiome diversity, a decrease in the number of beneficial bacteria, and an increase in harmful bacteria that cause sugar consumption damage can also cause gas and bloating problems. Following nutrition recommendations based on the microbiome needs modulates the microbiome, thus reducing complaints.

Do these results reflect my microbiome at the time I collected the sample, or the

microbiome that has been shaped in my gut since birth?

The microbiome begins to take shape during gestation and is affected by many

various factors (type of birth, environmental factors, diet, lifestyle, medications used, surgeries). The data in the microbiome analysis report reflect the effect of all these factors on the gut microbiome. It reports on the state of the microflora from birth to date, rather than just the current moment.

Could my psychological problems be caused by my gut health?

The microbiome plays an important role both in psychological and physiological

health. While the gut-brain axis provides communication between the two organs, there is a mutual interaction involving many mechanisms. For example, when the intestinal microbiome balance is distorted, it disrupts the production of serotonin, the happiness hormone. This may cause individuals to feel more depressed. Studies have shown that psychology and gut health are closely related.

What does taxonomic analysis mean?

Taxonomic analysis shows the ratio of bacteria clades that exist in your microbiome at genus, family, phylum and class levels.
